Book Review: Yours Is The Day, Lord

Yours Is the Day, Lord, Yours Is the Night by Jeanie & David Gushee is a morning and evening prayer book that helps the reader in framing prayers and devotions each day of the year.

Each of the prayers in the book is particular for the day of the year and the season of year as well as the liturgical calendar that is followed in formal church readings. The authors do not mean for this to replace the personal prayers the reader makes to God, but rather as a foundation for each prayer opportunity.

The prayers here are a selection of those from famous theologians, authors as well as prayers from specific denominations. Some of the prayers are more than one thousand years old while others are from much more recent times.

There's nothing fancy about this book but it serves its purpose. I also liked that there are prayers by women, as women are often excluded from the consideration when it comes to determining who is a religious expert.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishers in exchange for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion here is entirely my own.
